As promised a few months ago, I am making this very important post about certain people (cough, hipsters) that don't like when other people discover their favorite band. Let's all be honest with ourselves here firstly though. We've all done this. I know when people started liking Ed Sheeran or Little Mix here in the states, I was a little bitter. But, now that they've gotten so much success I am overjoyed for them.
But seriously, what's the deal with our generation? We are the "I Had It First, Back off" kind of people we usually would hate to be.
We should welcome new fans of musicians but instead to be a true fan nowadays someone has to know all the names of every song ever recorded and the cousins of all the band members.
So basically to be a fan of a band, supporting their music is not enough. You have to be a Stage 5 clinger, as well.
Here's a little honest truth for you.
Before you like One Direction, or Emblem 3, or The 1975, or All Time Low, or The Summer Set or...you get my point, before you like YOUR FAVORITE BAND, someone else liked them. That person didn't turn around and say "name 5 songs, name the mother of the drummer's cousin, do you even really like them?" (and if they did, they are for a lack of a better word, an asshole.) and before THAT person liked them, someone else liked them and before ALL OF THE FANS liked that band, their parents liked them THE MOST, so if we're going by this ridiculous system, parents are the only TRUE fans of any musician ever born on this good green earth.
Don't be that person. Please, I beg. Welcome all of the people who like your favorite bands music into the fan base (I dare not call it a bandom) and focus on the people in the fan base who actually are creepy and weird, which my next "Tell Me Why" post will be on next week: Celebrity Stalkers: Groupies, Paparazzi and Crazed Fans.
Tell me why you think people OBSESS over being the person who knew their favorite band first, below!
Also update on my last Tell Me Why blog....5SOS are actually a really good musical group and I feel bad for asking why they were getting publicity, I see it now. They're Australian and talented. It's the foreign musicians effect. So....yeah, until next time Buzznet friends.
